It's a Keeper! so Guess What We had for Dinner!

Sunday, September 14, 2014

It's a keeper!!! And we downed half of it for dinner! We kind of had to be pigs to get it all down, but we managed, and it was very good.

But let's start at the beginning of the day. Somewhere along the line we were all ready to leave the RV park, and went to the river overlook. The map of ships coming and going looked pretty active today. Betty spotted a cruise ship at the Astoria harbor. We don't know when it came in, but probably early this morning so they could have the day in town.

Next stop was the registration office at Fort Stevens to try for some good spots. After a try or two, we actually got our favorite spots for the next five days. This time we are actually leaving on Friday, not just going to the RV park.

This one is a keeper - Supper coming up!
Then a quick stop at Costco and Home Depot, back in for bait, and out to the fishing hole. We wanted to be out there about 1:30, and we were close.

We got the rigs parked and the guys went out. After a while Betty and Wilma took them some sandwiches since we hadn't had much for breakfast. By the time we got out there, Fred had caught a keeper and missed two others, and Barney almost had one on the bank when it broke loose. Fred also missed another one later. It was a very busy fishing day!

Almost back with "The Load"
When they finally called it quits for the day we stopped at the little place at the boat harbor that will process your fish for you, and we had them clean it and fillet it, and had half of it vacuum packed. The state park does not have cleaning facilities. The RV park has a nice cleaning station, but we had already checked out of there. The last time Barney had to clean and chunk one up Betty thought there must be a better way than doing it in the camper. Believe me, having it cleaned and filleted was worth $5. They made really quick work of it, and no mess for the camper!

We again stopped at the overlook, and it was really crowded, but we were just in time to see two cargo ships meet and pass each other going opposite directions.

The channel isn't very wide, so they are fairly close to each other, but I'm sure not as close as it looks to us on shore.

At about the same time the cruise ship came out of Astoria and made its way past us. I know I've said it before, but it is really fun to watch the ship traffic so close, and once again, it doesn't take much to entertain us! But like I said, we weren't the only ones out there.

Then we had to stop at the registration building and get our hang tags for our camp sites, stop to dump our trash, get settled in our spots and get the fish in the oven. Oh it was sooo good.
