Wow! Wow! Wow!

10-03-11

All I Can Say is Wow, Wow, Wow

We stayed mostly under cover and out of sight overnight, along the lonely highway 50 in Utah. We actually heard several vehicles go by during the night.
Our "hidden" campsite in the desert. Hey, it was free!

Wilma and Fred are having refrigerator woes, and wanted to see if we could find an RV repair shop, so we started out fairly early for us.  We stopped in Hinkley for fuel, but the diesel pump wasn't working, so had to move on to Delta, but not before asking about an RV repair shop. The man before us in the diesel line knew of a place in Delta, so off we went. Fueled up first, then stopped at the shop. Turns out he couldn't help us because he didn't have the right part.

We proceeded on across Utah to I15, then north to catch US50 east, then on to Salina. We didn't find a repair shop there, but we stopped at noon at a little park and had our breakfast. Aren't we on a tight schedule?!

At Salina we got on I70 headed east through Utah. This is where the wow, wow, wow comes in. Instead of travelling across desert land, the area is quite stunning. From the pass that was putting on a good show of fall colors, to the many different colors, shapes and formations of the hills and valleys, it was mile after mile of just awesome. It was mandatory to stop at all the view points along the way. Even with all the reading I have done ahead of our travels, I had no idea to expect something so spectacular. Here are some of the amazing sights we saw along the way.

We checked into the state park in Green River, Utah for overnight even though they do not have electrical hookups available. The big draw here was having a spacious layout with lots of grass between sites, and the fact that a nine hole golf course runs around and through the camping area. So of course we hurried right over to play. It was almost dark by the time we finished. Playing a new course is always a little longer play, but also the fact that most of us lost at least several balls in water hazards or just plain deep grass, plus one (and this is really true) went down a rodent hole! making a longer game than usual. It was a tough little course, and loads of fun to play. Barney (and probably the rest of us) wants to play in every state, so we can strike Utah off the list.

It was late, but we came back to camp and had pizza and salad for dinner. We are trying to use as much as possible out of the faulty refrigerator before everything goes bad. We have the names of several repair shops in Grand Junction, Colorado, and hope to get everything fixed up tomorrow.
