Beautiful Fishing Day, No Catching

Sunday, September 8, 2013

The sky was clear and temperature warm this morning as we got ready to go out to the river bank to do some fishing.  There were a lot of people out there, so Barney and Fred went clear down to the end of the pack. The water wasn’t as calm there, but it didn’t seem to matter. Anyone we talked to said fishing had been good the last two days, but not today.

A Sheriff had driven out on the beach to check on things, and he stopped for a minute to talk to us. In jest, he apologized for the weather not being what we probably expected for this time of year! It was so nice, not even windy.

After fishing a while we headed back to the campground to see if we could get sites for the rest of the week. We had to wait a little while for them to confirm, so we went out to the beach overlook area and fixed some sandwiches for lunch.  Going back to registration, we got side by side sites in a loop farther out, so we parked the Flintstones and then went to Costco.

We actually got out of Costco for probably the cheapest ever! We really didn’t need much, but got some fresh fruit and rolls. Well, the Rubbles did get a new audio book, so they didn’t fare quite as cheaply.

On the way back, we stopped at a roadside park to see what the draw is. Any time we have been here there is always a park host camped there, but it is day use only. Evidently the draw is a dog park which was quite nice, but it also has access to the 4.5 mile paved beach trail, had a very nice river overlook deck, and a nice picnic shelter. We still don’t know why they need a park host, but the restrooms were spotless, and it’s a very clean park. Maybe the host presence just keeps out the riffraff.

We thought this pay phone on the side of the restroom building was funny. No receiver, but still a phone book.

Back at the campground, we decided we didn’t really like the assigned spots. They backed up to the bathroom/shower building, and the path went between us, so they weren’t at all private. Betty and Wilma walked around and found a couple possibilities, so sent Fred and Barney to see if we could change. Could, did, and much better. We are back to back with maybe 20 to 30 feet between, but about as good as the ones we normally like to get here.

We aren’t taking many pictures so we might not post every day.

We repositioned the picnic table and had our supper there. Now we are all ready to relax! Hope your day was good too.
